Song questing!!
I just thought of another song that would fit my Gethen playlist. Unfortunately, iTunes doesn't have it. So. Does anyone have "Sunday Morning Yellow Sky" by October Project?
Is the Pulefen Farm sequence. Yes. Look--
Genly is kidnapped in Orgoreyn and trucked off to this freaky place out in the middle of nowhere. There he is given all kinds of drugs -- some probably experimental, others designed to regulate kemmer which Genly doesn't have so is bad.
He can feel his skin like a prison
Like a dying cage he struggles to live inside
He tries to call out but nobody hears him.
At last, as he is near death, Therem shows up with forged papers posing as a newly assigned guard. He goes into dothe -- a kind of self-induced adrenaline rush -- and carries the much larger Genly out of the prison, grabs the sled with their supplies, and skiis into the uninhabited winter wilderness. Over the next three days, they both fall into deep sleep -- Genly recovering from the drugs, Therem going through the thangen-sleep that follows the use of dothe-strength, and when finally Genly awakens from his fevered dreams into coherent consciousness, Therem explains that he had to rescue him because it was his fault Genly got sent there in the first place.
At the ragged edge of the silence
In the calm that only comes with the violent sleep
Inside the heart and the hope of redemption
Hide your eyes,
Hide your eyes...
Later in Therem's notes, he comments on finding it strange that Genly always hid his face when he wept, even in his drug-induced hysteria...
